Three people discovered fullerenes and the C60 carbon molecule back in 1985. They were Harold Kroto, Robert Curl and Richard Smalley. These findings were so significant in the scientific community that the three men were awarded a Nobile Prize for chemistry for their discovery. The award was made in 1996.
